Melissa’s approach to counseling is a blend of Systemic, Structural, and Satir Family Therapy, as well as Cognitive-Behavioral and Solution-Focused Therapy. She believes in tailoring sessions to meet each client’s individual and systemic needs. Melissa’s goal is to create a safe space in which to establish a warm and genuine therapeutic relationship in order to allow clients to feel heard and understood. Not only is it important to her that clients feel safe and comfortable, but also able to understand the source of their troubles as well as set and attain personal and family goals. Melissa is happy to provide faith based counseling, should a client desire. Melissa is a student member in good standing of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.


Additionally, Melissa is passionate about working with children and families that have experienced or are experiencing divorce, blending, and life transitions. She is dedicated to helping families navigate the challenges associated with the stressors that result from separation and divorce as well as helping couples struggling with infertility.

As a teacher, Melissa has experience working in an underprivileged community with many students struggling with ADD, ADHD, emotional disturbance, social anxiety, dyslexia, and cognitive delays. She specializes in adapting and modifying instruction to suit learning styles of students with physical, behavioral, mental, and ESL challenges, in an effort to increase confidence and help each child reach their full potential. Additionally, Melissa utilizes Play Therapy when working with children and values a child’s autonomy.

Upon earning her Masters, Melissa intends to become a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Melissa earned her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Florida State University and is a certified English Language Arts Secondary teacher in the state of Texas. She is currently practicing under the supervision of Juan Sazo LCSW-S and Cheryl Rogers, LPC-S, LMFT-S.
